Soccer is something all of my kids share in common. This makes me a proud soccer mom. I guess I’ve been a soccer mom since J was 3 years old, so about 9 years now.
I didn’t play growing up. I actually had no interest in it when I was younger; swimming was all I wanted to do. It wasn’t until my nephew and niece were playing that I came to love the sport.
Over the years, I’ve learned more and more about soccer. I’ve even coached my kiddos which makes the fact that I’m still learning rules kind of a funny side note. Though to be fair, not all the rules are the same and some don’t apply when kiddos are younger.
One of the great things about all my kiddos liking soccer and their close ages is that I can often get two of them on the same team. Last year I think it was Amanda and Lucas at some point, although they also played against each other too. I distinctly remember a game when both played keeper at the same time…talk about stressful! This year it’s Lucas and Jackson on the same team for indoor soccer at Sportsplex. It’s so much fun to see work together and how they protect one another.
I fully believe that if J is in goal, Lucas plays that much harder on defense. And if Lucas is defense and J is offense, J works harder to keep the ball on the opponent’s side of the field. No matter how much they fight, their love for one another shines through.
Notably in this photo. J was in goal and there was a direct kick situation. I don’t really remember it very well other than this moment where Lucas took J’s side along with a couple other teammates and helped block the goal. I know that Lucas was not thrilled about the idea of having the ball kicked directly at him, but he stood tall.
I love how soccer can bring us all together. It’s been such a blessing in so many ways.
